About Dataset
This shapefile contains the merged features of the best available shorelines circa 2005. The scales vary, but generally range between 1:24k to 100k (most of the WC of the US and Canada are closer to 24k). Some island names have been attributed, but the majority are simply labeled "island" (or the giant "mainland" polygon). A good layer for maps that include the coastline and require higher resolution features.
