Getting Started
The Salmon Data Discovery Tool (SDDT) is a collaborative web-based repository developed by NOAA's Northwest Fisheries Science Center and the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission to centralize salmon-related data from various organizations, co-managers, and researchers. It provides a unified platform for storing and accessing diverse data types across multiple ecosystems, including population data and environmental information, serving users from casual browsers to comprehensive data analysts.

Who can upload a file?
Anyone can upload data! You must first create an account to upload data. You may create an account https://sddt.psmfc.org/login. For more information on creating an account, please see the SDDT User Guide.
How do you upload a file?
Once you login, go to My Datasets, then choose 'Add New Dataset'. For more detailed information, please refer to the SDDT User Guide.
What kinds of files can I upload?
SDDT will take any file type (PDF, Word, .dbf, spatial files, etc). For a large or suite of files, such as a shapefile, please zip files together before uploading.
Can I link to other sites e.g. project website or github repo?
Yes, when uploading a file, you can type in a website instead of upload a file. For more detailed information, please refer to the SDDT User Guide.
Is there a file size limit to the files being uploaded?
2 GB.
Can I upload more than one file per data card?
Yes, you can upload versions of data, such as time series or yearly water temperature data. If you would like to upload multiple files that are not versions of the same data, please zip the files together before uploading.
Are there permissions required for file upload?
Data uploaded should be yours to make publicly available. You will be prompted to agree to the following: "I have obtained permission from all parties who contributed to compiling this data and am authorized to share it publicly. I have reviewed the data and verified it contains no unauthorized personal information, confidential material, or sensitive content requiring protection. I understand this data will be publicly accessible, may be downloaded and used by others, and cannot be guaranteed complete removal once published. I take responsibility for the data's accuracy, compliance with applicable regulations, and confirmation that its sharing does not violate any agreements or rights."
How can I update all or part of a dataset (new years, etc)?
Go to My Datasets - find the dataset you would like to add more data too. Click the edit button, and navigate to Upload/Connect Data section. For more detailed information, please refer to the SDDT User Guide.
How can I cite datasets?
You can upload a citation file for users to reference that will be downloaded with the dataset. There is also a Citation section on the data uploading form where you can fill in all the necessary fields.
What should I upload for a thumbnail image?
Jpg or png. Adding a thumbnail can increase the appeal of your data and attract viewers.
What if I want to delete a file on SDDT?
You can edit your data in MyDatasets. Click the delete button next to the file you would like to remove and this will delete the files from the public site. For more detailed information, please refer to the SDDT User Guide.
