Estuary/Nearshore Ocean Ecosystem
Estuary and nearshore habitats provide spaces for salmon to physiologically transition from fresh to saltwater and back again as they migrate to and from the open ocean. These brackish water habitats provide protective cover, rearing habitat, and food opportunities for out-migrating juveniles as well as a resting place for returning adults. Data sets for nearshore ocean environments may include spatial habitat use, avian and pinniped predation, migration timing, dam passage counts, and terminal fisheries catch.
